Glacier Ridge PreK
District 47 is committed to providing high-quality early education and ensuring equitable access for all children in our community. Glacier Ridge PreK’s, also known as Preschool for All, is an early intervention program designed to support and prevent potential academic, language, and social-emotional delays. Prior to admission, each child participates in our comprehensive screening process. This process allows our teams to identify at-risk students who qualify to participate in the program by using a developmental screening tool that samples performance in a child's speech, language, cognition, perception, and fine and gross motor.
Children must be aged 3 or older to attend Glacier Ridge PreK. Children turning 5 on or before September 1 of the current school year must transition to kindergarten.
Glacier Ridge PreK’s At-Risk program provides students an opportunity for early intervention education, furthering our commitment to serving all members of our community.
Our Preschool For All program is offered Monday through Friday at Glacier Ridge Elementary School. PreK students attend either the 9:00-11:30 AM morning session or the 12:30-3:00 PM afternoon session.

Wehde educators can provide both bilingual classroom services and English as a Second Language classes for students who speak another language in their home and who qualify through a second language screening process.
Glacier Ridge PreK Special Education Services
District 47’s special education preschool services are designed to provide a free, appropriate public education to preschool-age children (3-5 years of age) with disabilities. In order to receive special education services, a student must have a physical or mental disability as identified in the Illinois State Criteria. The qualifying disabilities are autism, visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, orthopedic impairment, emotional disturbance, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, developmental delay, multiple disabilities, deafness, deaf-blindness, and other health impairment. In addition, a qualifying disability must adversely impact educational progress and require specially designed instruction. Determination of the existence of a disability and the need for special education services is accomplished by conducting a "full and individual" evaluation and considering all relevant information at a Multidisciplinary Educational Conference (MDEC).
Special Education services and supports are based on the individual needs of students. Services range from academic intervention to related services in areas such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Therapeutic services are available to students who require intervention in the realm of social, emotional and adjustment areas.
District 47 is committed to including students with disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate with students who are not disabled. We encourage strong collaboration with regular education staff to provide services to students in the most inclusive manner to benefit all students in the classroom.
